Stichting Hulp Haiti Driel (SHHD) presents an educational initiative aimed at providing educational opportunities for underprivileged children, especially girls, in the rural areas of Haiti.
This project makes a meaningful contribution that truly matters: giving 70 children the opportunity to return to school. This educational opportunity opens the door to a world of choices—a profession, a future, a dream.
The impact is direct and tangible: from schoolbooks and supplies such as notebooks, pens, and bags to essential items like shoes and soap.
Every day, the students receive a nutritious meal provided through an external food program, enabling them to gain energy and better concentrate on their school activities.
For €70 per student per year, a measurable change is achieved.

2. Problem Statement & Objective (Why?)
Many girls in Haiti are unable to attend school, resulting in an uncertain future. Women in Haiti are often in a disadvantaged position, affecting their access to education and nutrition compared to boys. The goal is to send underprivileged children, with a focus on girls, back to school in Passe Catabois, Haiti.
3. Results & Scope (What?)
The end result is that more girls can return to school, increasing their chances of earning a diploma and pursuing vocational training. We do not spend resources on high overhead costs or unfair intermediaries. All donations are invested directly in the students.
4. Approach & Phases (How?)
Phases and related activities:
Of the original 250 students, 70 children have now been identified due to the current financial challenges in Haiti.
The students who demonstrate the greatest motivation to shape their future through the school project have been carefully selected by local experts (Edline Dorelus, Venes Jean Charles, and Rob Hulshuizen), taking their home situation into account.
The original number of 250 students has been reduced to 70 because of the challenging financial circumstances in Haiti.
The selection process for participation in the project, in which both the students' home circumstances and determination were taken into consideration, was carried out by Edline Dorelus (medical assistant at the hospital in Passe Catabois), Venes Jean Charles (manager of the workshop in Passe Catabois), and Rob Hulshuizen (project leader).
With the help of local market women, school bags, notebooks, pens, shoes, and soap are purchased and distributed to the students. The uniforms are sewn by local tailors. Each school has a uniform with its own distinctive colors.
Every year, we document the development and aspirations of our students through photographs and interviews.
5. Planning & Resources (When & How Much?)
Milestones:
- All 70 students will receive the necessary supplies before the start of the new school year.
- The project is open-ended and is closely monitored in collaboration with Rob Hulshuizen, an experienced development worker with more than 20 years of experience in Haiti.
Budget: €70 per student per year.
Tuition fees vary by grade, with higher grades being more expensive due to the costs of national examinations. The average annual amount is €70.
The students receive books, notebooks, pens, a uniform, shoes, socks, hair accessories, a calculator, soap, and a school bag, and all of their school and examination fees are paid!
